Kings County Distillery Tour
A rare occurrence: a restaurant professional having a Saturday off. What to do? What to do?
Visit a distillery, of course! At that — the only (and self-touted oldest) whiskey distillery in NYC! (It opened in April 2010)
Whilst scouring the internet and checking up on statuses of my ever-growing list of bookmarks, I happened on the “Weekend Fare” blog post by Bao Ong on the...

the Books: Beautiful People →
Hey All,
The Forkcast has ‘leaked’ a new track from ‘The Way Out’. http://pitchfork.com/forkcast/14244-beautiful-people/
Hope you like it! As always, every track on the record sounds pretty different, so don’t read too much into it as the direction for the whole album. It’s one of many, we…

Mexican Drug Violence EXPLODES, Literal Heads Roll →
I really fail to comprehend the logic of the War on Drugs.
The people who win are the cartels. They are in the distribution business. Those at the top have all the money because they can find the markets willing to pay exorbitant prices for crops that grow like weeds.
In the meantime, it’s easier for little Johhny and little Susie to buy pot than buy beer because at least the guy at the...

Life is Good - You gotta count your blessings
Parents, though slightly jet-lagged, are in Paris.
Just cracked open an affordable Grand Cru Alsatian Riesling I bought from the winemaker at a wine expo a few weeks ago.
Living in Paris for the next few months.
The food here is delicious.
I have an amazing girlfriend who loves me dearly. And I love her too.
Life is good.
Humans →
The same species that has scientifically deduced precisely how and why we itch, “Although,” quote, “there is a long way to go,” is also the same species who has put a date on how old the universe is, has dared question the meaning of life, and knows more about the surface of Mars than the bottom of the ocean on its own planet.
Just presenting the facts, do with them what...

I'm such a (wine) nerd
Friday : Meet up with people at some super-happ’nin’ bar in east-central Paris. Walk in solo, making the rounds pretending not to look for my friends as I scout the crowd for my friends. Every once and while stopping to listen to the music. Head bob. Head bob. Move on, continue the search. Send text. Oh, they’re outside. Hide my beer inside the bar so no French hipster kids...

In an effort to lure young readers to the magazine, The Economist sent branded pizza boxes to 20 different pizzerias in Philly. The Economist is always in good taste. Damn those elite Britons.

Russia prepares for future combat in the Arctic →
There are four countries who have ambiguous rights to the arctic region: Russia, Canada, Denmark, and Norway. Some of you may know that Russia made the effort to go to the bottom of their continental ridge and plant a flag, symbolizing they own the arctic (and more importantly have rights to the wealth of natural resources estimated to lie beneath the ocean). Watch out for the true Cold War on...
